In Alabama, the unpredictable weather can sometimes have its perks, and when you are planning a Birmingham winter wedding you never really know if you’ll have a heat wave or snow. You can imagine our joy and surprise when it was 75 degrees for Dabney and Ty’s January Birmingham winter wedding at St. Paul’s Cathedral. All of us could not get over what a beautiful day it was, and at their reception at The Country Club of Birmingham guests lingered on the outside patio to enjoy every last drop of this rare, warm, winters day.
Ty and Dabney met at UAB in a history class. He was a TA and she was an undergrad student and throughout this course their only interactions were from across the room until the last day of class. After the final exam, Ty passed Dabney a note telling her he wanted to get to know her better and the rest is history. These two are so kind and so easy going, and it is so clear that family means everything to them. Dabney’s grandparents are my new marriage role models and you’ll notice a ton of photos of them being the life of the party on the dance floor. You’ll also notice that Dabney’s dad is a dancing machine and has taught his kids the fine art or tearing up the dance floor!
One of the best parts of my job is being able to see the influence of the strong and beautiful marriages, and both Dabney and Ty’s parents have such a clear and strong love for each other. Dabney was so intentional about including both of their family’s legacy and those that came before them as a part of her day. One of the meaningful heirloom details included was a rosary around her bouquet from a nun that Dabney worked closely with for many years. Dabney also borrowed Ty’s mom’s veil, and wore her grandmother’s necklace that has been worn by many women in her family and passed down for many generations.
From Ty’s Harry Potter cake, to their light up dance shoes, I loved the way Dabney and Ty tied in their unique personalities at their reception. They had quite the dance party led by the amazing Kashmere band, so don’t miss those amazing dance floor shots. Special thanks to Ryane Rice for assisting and all the other amazing vendors below!
