She says he is generous, hilarious, and romantic. He says she is outgoing, caring, and lovable.
Ellen and I went to college together and after pledging the same sorority we became fast friends. We got even closer when we spent time in Argentina wandering the streets trying to find our way to class by asking random strangers in broken spanglish. Ellen has a joyful, fun, uplifting, makes-you-feel-like-you-can-do-and-conquer-anything personality. It was hard to imagine someone that could both keep up with Ellen but also love as big as Ellen loves. From the minute I met her groom-to-be, Brian, and watched him interact with me and those around me, I knew Brian and Ellen were meant to be. Brian is kind, caring, fun and loves deeply for those around him… just as Ellen does.
I LOVE their proposal story. They were visiting his mother in Chicago and went on a little day trip around the city. Brian asked her in front of the planetarium with the most beautiful view of the entire Chicago skyline in the background. Brian had his friend (a groomsman) take secret pictures of the them while he popped the question. Oh and that camera that Josh was using … it was also a camera Brian bought and surprised Ellen with. They had looked at a few cameras month prior and he went out, bought it but had it shipped to Josh in Chicago to take their pictures with! How sweet and thoughtful is that?!
Ellen and Brian got married on a perfect fall day last November in Memphis, Tennessee. We started the day getting ready at the River Inn of Habor Town in one of their gorgeous rooms. Ellen and Brian exchanged the sweetest letters and gifts with each other and I’m pretty sure every one in the room was crying when Ellen read part of the note and showed the framed photo he gifted her of their first date. The tears continued as Ellen and her father had their first look. He kept saying, “you’re so beautiful, Ellen. So beautiful.” It is moments like these that I’m forever thankful to witness and capture for them to keep forever.
Ellen had the prettiest mix and match colors for her bridesmaids. I loved the combination of the shades of blues and the pashmina scarfs! I also loved that Brian and all of his guys were so fun and hams with the camera. They made all of the bridal party photos a blast. We left the Harbor Inn and headed to the Second Presbyterian Church for their ceremony. Ellen wanted some formal portraits with her veil in the church garden and I loved capturing the sweet moments of her mom, grandmother and her sister helping adjust her veil and making sure every detail was perfect. Spending time with each of them throughout the day showed me what a legacy of strong women they have raised. I have so many favorite moments captured during this part of the day that you can’t miss: the moment in the garden with Ellen and her grandmother, the ladies praying just before the ceremony, the last moment with Ellen and her dad before they walked down the isle, and Ellen’s ADORABLE reaction after they were pronounced husband and wife!
Once they were married (eekkk) we headed back to the River Inn of Harbor Town for a magical candle lit reception. The hanging floral installations and flowers truly made the night feel so dreamy and intimate. Ellen is known as quite the dancing queen and you’ll see the evidence of her skills below. Ellen and Brian, thank you. Thank you for inviting me to your hometown, including me in your wedding weekend, allowing me to capture this special day for you. Thank you for the laughs during planning, the fun dance party, and showing me what 150% unconditional love looks like 🙂 You two are the best! Happy one year!!!
